Our Mission

We make healthy, locally grown food accessible to under-served Oregonians.

What We Do

Farmers Market Fund’s Double Up Food Bucks program provides a dollar for dollar match on SNAP purchases at over 90 Oregon Farmers Markets, up to $20 per day. When shoppers spend $20 in SNAP, they receive $20 free in DUFB to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables, doubling their buying power at the market. Double Up is a triple win: families bring home more fresh produce, more money goes directly to small, local producers, and local economies thrive.

Our work comes from the core belief that no person should be denied access to the foods they need to eat well.

Building Capacity and Community Among Farmers Markets

In close partnership with the Oregon Farmers Market Association, Farmers Market Fund provides support and training to participating farmers markets. This includes bookkeeping support, SNAP technical assistance, anti-racism & DEI training, and loads of tools and templates to support their work.

Our goal is to encourage and empower farmers market managers to build markets that truly serve their individual communities – from the shoppers to the producers. Together with the markets we have worked to build a network of farmers market managers across the state, where they can share ideas, ask questions, and learn from one another.

Farmers Market Fund has also implemented a Growth Grant in 2022 for the first time. This grant supplements Double Up Food Bucks incentive funding and supports increased capacity for Farmers Markets to administer the DUFB program.

Listening and Learning: Our Commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, & Justice

We recognize that an equitable food system cannot exist within an inequitable society: as a direct result of structural racism and white supremacy, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color living in Oregon perpetually experience the highest levels of hunger. Farmers Market Fund commits to centering anti-racism, racial equity, and inclusion in our programs, operations, culture, and advocacy. We strive to create and support an equitable and just food system that nourishes all Oregonians.

Shoppers, farmers market managers, and farmers market vendors are at the heart of Double Up Food Bucks. We are committed to centering the voices of those with the lived experience participating in Double Up, so that we can make the program even better and more impactful for more Oregonians.
