WHO ARE WE?

WHO ARE WE?

Farmers Market Fund believes that everyone in our community should have access to healthy food.

As a charitable companion organization to Portland Farmers Market, Farmers Market Fund is dedicated to providing low-income, elderly and under-served populations throughout the region greater access to fresh, locally grown food.

Farmers Market Fund delivers on its mission by administering Fresh Exchange, a money matching program for SNAP recipients, also known as food stamps.

Farmers Market Fund also leads a collaboration of farmers markets in the region to build funding for money matching programs region-wide, increasing the collective impact matching programs have in our communities.

WHAT IS FRESH EXCHANGE?

WHAT IS FRESH EXCHANGE?

Fresh Exchange is a program of Farmers Market Fund that provides a dollar for dollar match (up to $5) for all Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funds (formerly food stamps) redeemed at the King, Buckman, Northwest and Kenton Portland Farmers Market locations.

Fresh Exchange funds can be used to purchase all SNAP-eligible products, including fruit, vegetables, meat, bread, cheese and some baked goods. Funds can also be used to purchase seeds and edible plant starts.

Since its inception in 2009, Fresh Exchange has helped put over $190,000 of fresh food into the hands of area residents in need. These same funds are then directed into the hands of our region’s farmers and food producers, contributing to the success of the local food economy and fostering healthier communities.

WHO DOES IT HELP?

WHO DOES IT HELP?

We invite you to make a tax-deductible contribution to Farmers Market Fund to support Fresh Exchange and to help further our collective goal of fresh, healthy food for all our citizens.

With one in five Oregonians receiving food assistance through SNAP and new federal cuts to SNAP currently in effect, matching programs at farmers markets are more important than ever before for those on food stamps wanting to healthy locally grown food.
